1:700 USS Iowa Battleship BB-61 1984

Full Hull or Waterline Hull
223 pieces

The construction of BB-61 Iowa began on September 16, 1940 at the

New York Navy Yard as the first ship of the Iowa class of
battleships. This class of ship was planned to rival other World
War II battleships, such as the yet-complete Japanese "Yamato".
The BB-61 Iowa weighted 45,000 tons, had nine 16 inch/50 cal.
guns in three batteries, and its maximum speed was 33 knots,
which was slightly faster than the Japanese battleships of that
time. The width of US warships were limited to about 108 feet
because the US faced battle fronts in two oceans and its ships
had to pass through the Panama Canal. The waterline of the Iowa
class was as long as 850 feet. The Iowa entered service on
February 22, 1943 and fought several battles in the Pacific along

with her sister ship, the USS New Jersey. After World War II the
Iowa saw action in the Korean War and was refitted with updated
electronics and armaments to serve in the Arabian and Indian
Oceans during the "Cold War". The Iowa was retired during
subsequent US administrations and in now in mothballs at the
Philadelphia Navy Yard in Pennsylvania.
